Bed Bugs

I am sure that you have been reading the recent articles or watching news reports on the increasing bed bug problem in this country. Bed bugs get their name because they are commonly found in beds but can also be found in other places where humans spend a lot of time: hotels, airplanes, and couches. Bedbugs are blood-feeding insects that are being found in all types of dwellings from posh Park Avenue apartments to doctors’ offices, nursery schools and hospitals. Bedbugs are not affected by socio-economic boundaries and the level of sanitation within an area will not discourage these blood seeking ectoparasites from invading and dwelling.

Bed Bugs are nocturnal and primarily come out at night to feed on people. They hide in tiny cracks in the day and are usually in close proximity to the food source (which is you).

Bedbugs can be introduced into structures through many different avenues such as used mattresses, furniture, luggage and travel bags from a recent trip. Bedbugs can be brought in by you, on your clothing from a home that you were unaware had a Bed Bug infestation, etc.

Our treatment is to target the hiding areas and treat them appropriately. The more access we have in your home, the greater the chance we have of eliminating them quickly. This treatment strategy may involve dismantling your bed frame, headboard, removing drawers from dressers, taking pictures and mirrors off walls, lifting the edging of carpets and inspecting personal items. Although this process maybe invasive, we will perform these tasks in a careful and respectful manner.

The prescribed protocol for bedbug control involves a thorough, detailed crack and crevices treatment not only within the infested areas, but also in the adjacent rooms on either side, above and beneath the infested area. Obviously the mattress, bed frame, box spring and headboard are the most likely areas bedbugs will be found; however, they can also be found along the perimeter of rooms under carpeting, behind wall mounted pictures and behind peeling wall paper. Electronic appliances (which generate heat) such as clock radios and hairdryers are also subject to infestation.

AAV has developed a comprehensive preparation sheet for our customers so they will be educated and prepared for the date of treatment.
